Beautiful or Bizarre? Jean Paul Gaultier Kilt-Leg Pants

Style - Beautiful or Bizarre

I've always had a huge crush on clothing that captures attention and stands out; I've never believed that a woman's wardrobe should be limited to one particular style or genre. And while I've been busy blogging about the benefits of wide-leg pants for Fall 2010, that doesn't mean that cigarette pants and skinny jeans aren't still fair game for the coming season. But a combination of the two?

Check these Jean Paul Gaultier kilt-leg pants. They're serious, right? JPG's kilt-leg pants have a knife-pleated kilt panel that wraps all the way around one leg and buckles on the hip to emphasize the flow of the pleats.

Dramatic much?

Wearing these pants is like wearing slim-leg pants on one side, and a maxi skirt on the other. I'm all about the 100 percent virgin wool and made in Italy quality. The leather buckled tabs are certainly chic, but I'm not sold on the idea of a kilt-leg pant.

Et tu?

Beautiful or Bizarre? Hermes J'Aime Mon Carre

Style - Beautiful or Bizarre

Oh, the irony.

A street style blog that's styled beforehand.

Makes perfect sense, non?

Especially when said blog is by one of the biggest designer names in French fashion history: Hermes. Hermes has launched J'aime Mon Carré (translation: I Love My Scarf), a street style site with lots of photos featuring models on the street wearing Hermes scarves in various capacities.

What does this new Hermes site feature? Models hand-selected from New York, LA, London, Paris, and Tokyo, posing whilst wearing Hermes scarves that are tied in various styles. The models appear in short videos; there's a video for every city represented. The Hermes J'aime Mon Carré site has 'Knotting Cards' that pop up with sketches and instructions on how to tie your Hermes scarf to achieve the selected style. There are close up images of each scarf, as well as details on material, price, etc.

The concept of J'aime Mon Carré is certainly interesting, and the site is definitely an innovative reach out to a younger generation of potential Hermes customers (though I know no teenaged girls who could afford a cent plis de miao or chasse en inde scarf). But I'm curious to know what YOU think: Are the pre-styled models and set up "street style" poses too fake?

Is J'aime Mon Carré by Hermes beautiful or bizarre?

Beautiful or Bizarre? Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2010 Ads

Style - Beautiful or Bizarre

  • The women are gorgeous — just look at the alabaster complexions and natural beauty of models Vlada Roslyakova, Olga Sherer, Zuzana Gregorova, Regina Feoktistova, and Kamila Fllipclkova.
  • The clothing designs are immaculate — the classic Dolce & Gabbana satin bustier dresses, the vibrantly coloured leopard-print slip dresses, tanks, and sweaters, and the lustrous velvet and lace.
  • The headbands — well, I'm undecided. I'm a huge fan of headpieces — whether feathered or floral, lace or leather, — and worn right a headpiece can be the highlight of an outfit. The proper headband works well in so many situations. That being said, are these Dolce & Gabbana floral headpieces too much? Are they even practical?

A detailed look at the design: Each Dolce & Gabbana floral headpiece featured in the design house's Fall 2010 ad campaign is anchored by a thick black band. The Dolce & Gabbana headpieces boast huge handmade leopard-print flowers (the same pattern is seen on the aforementioned slip dresses, tanks, and sweaters) that are companioned with smaller fabric daisies, lilies, peonies, and orchids. Then we've got the pliable fabric leaves. It's much to take in, yes?

So while I think a Dolce & Gabbana floral headpiece would be a darling and daring accessory to my favourite LBD for a dinner party or special night out, I'm wondering what you think? Do you find these Dolce & Gabbana headbands to be beautiful or bizarre?

Beautiful or Bizarre? Roberto Cavalli Printed Silk-Chiffon Jumpsuit

Style - Beautiful or Bizarre

Multicoloured leopard-print in a gam-highlighting gossamer silk-chiffon, this Roberto Cavalli jumpsuit certainly is something to behold. Simply designed, it features a round neck, epaulets (ornamental shoulder pieces for those of you who don't speak fashion), draped detailing, buttons down the front, and tie-up ankles. It's a lot to take in, right? But then again, Roberto Cavalli usually is.

This 100 percent silk silk jumpsuit was a hit on the runway, where the designer cinched the waist with a feather-tasseled belt, and draped a jacket over the shoulders for a little extra drame. Peep-toed ankle booties completed the look, which are spot-on style for Fall 2010. And, not just for summer, this Roberto Cavalli silk jumpsuit shows us yet another piece we can stylishly segue from the summer months to fall.

As usual with these beautiful or bizarre entries, I'm stuck debating within the folds of my own fashion-friendly mind whether or not this safari-style jumpsuit is something I could style in a real way. I mean, it is a practical piece, and it is leopard-print, and it is silk...

What say you?

Beautiful or Bizarre? 3.1 Phillip Lim Fur-Trimmed Denim Jacket

Style - Beautiful or Bizarre

As of late, denim has been making quite the impression amongst the celebrity set. And coming soon, — if the Fall 2010 ready-to-wear runway shows for Burberry and Marc Jacobs are any indication, — we'll be seeing lots of shearling.

Worn separately, both trends allow us to style legitimate looks for our fall and winter wardrobes, but putting them together certainly creates an ugly interesting amalgam, right?

For exhibit A, check this 3.1 Phillip Lim fur-trimmed denim jacket. The mid-blue, stone-washed denim coverup features shearling lining (nice and warm for those chilly fall days) and detachable lamb fur trimmed cuffs. While the latter would be chic on almost any overcoat, I don't really see the appeal of how they're used here. The sleeves are cuffed, the push-stud fastenings through the front are gold, and the patch pockets are practical.

But I'm not sold.

Do you think this 3.1 Phillip Lim fur-trimmed denim jacket is beautiful or bizarre?
