Persol 714 Sunglasses

Written by H on .

I'm in a long-term relationship with my classic tortoise-shell Ray-Ban classic Wayfarers, but each Spring when the weather starts to warm, I find myself perusing for my next pair of statement sunnies. Haven't found anything in a couple of years comparable to my favourite frames —

Until now.

There are two new pairs of sunglasses vying for my affection, and both pairs are beyond.

First, check out the unisex appeal and vintage styling of Persol's 714 sunglasses. Look familiar? Thought so. Steve McQueen made the 714s famous in The Thomas Crown Affair (check out some of my most favourite shots of Steve on my Pinterest). The foldable protoype of Persol's famous 649 shades, the 714 was the first collapsable pair of glasses. Amazing, right? 714 sunglasses are available in both Havana and crystal yellows, with several lens variations. Pretty sure 714s in crystal yellow would wear wonderfully with my complexion and blonde locks. Just sayin.

Next, I'm absolutely loooving Persol's Suprema sunglasses. They've certainly got a 50s vibe, and almost remind me of Miu Miu's cat-eye sunglasses from 2011. Divine! Love the shape, the detail, and the faded lens. While they're not as iconic as 714s, I'm confident that I'd keep a pair of Suprema's for a lifetime (or at least long-term).

While both pairs of sunglasses are polar opposites on the style spectrum, I'd happily wear both pairs. Persol has a reputation for producing sunglasses with staying power, and these two pairs of sunglasses are no exception.

Trend-Spotting: Fascinators Banned at Royal Ascot's Royal Enclosure

Written by H on .

It would appear that fascinators are just too trendy, or that's the conclusion some have reached after it was announced that the high-attention headpieces have been banned at Royal Ascot's Royal Enclosure, taking place this summer. Fear not, however, as those sitting in the more mainstream public grandstand will have the option between wearing a fascinator and a hat.

You're likely familiar with the fanciful headgear, but for those of you who've been hiding under a rock, a fascinator is a cross between a small hat and a headpiece (most often affixed to the head with either a clip or hairband). Fascinators have come into fashion and been seen in higher frequency ever since the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, started styling the unique headgear. (You may remember the designs she's worn by Philip Treacy and also Vivien Sheriff.)

According to the dress code posted on the Ascot website, "Fascinators are no longer permitted in the Royal Enclosure; neither are headpieces which do not have a base covering a sufficient area of the head (4 inches/10cm)."

And what else has changed in the dress code for Royal Ascot's Royal Enclsoure?

An article posted on BBC News states that, in an effort to restore formality, strapless and sheer-strap dresses/shirts have been banned, and dresses/skirts are required to hit at knee-length or just below. Men are now required to wear a suit and tie.

Royal Ascot takes place in June each year, and this year events run from Tuesday June 19 - Saturday June 23.

The bohemian gray and pink leopard-print wool blend will be scarf your girl will style during several seasons (not just on Valentine's Day).
